Your property's exterior is the first thing anyone sees. It is also the part doing the most work — taking rain, frost, UV and constant temperature change all year round.

Exterior painting in the South East needs materials that can cope with all of that. We use high-quality exterior masonry paints and primers — Dulux Weathershield and comparable professional-grade products — applied at the right spreading rate rather than thinned to cover more wall.

Preparation matters even more outside than it does indoors. Surfaces are cleaned down, loose and blown material is removed, cracks are cut out and filled, and bare or porous areas are stabilised before any topcoat. Painting over a failing surface simply buys a year and then costs more to put right.

We also work to the weather rather than the diary. Masonry paint applied onto a damp wall, or in temperatures too low for it to cure, will fail regardless of how good the product is — so we will move a start date rather than force one.

A well-maintained exterior does more than look good — it keeps water out of the fabric of the building, which is where expensive problems start.

Exterior Surfaces We Paint

Smooth and textured render — the most common exterior finish locally, and the one that benefits most from a breathable masonry coating.
Pebbledash — needs a heavier application rate to cover properly; underestimating this is the usual reason a pebbledash repaint looks patchy.
Brickwork — painted where it has already been painted before, with honest advice when we think it is better left bare.

When to Repaint, and Why Timing Matters

Most exteriors in this part of the country need attention every five to ten years, depending on the substrate, the aspect, and how good the last job was. North-facing and heavily exposed elevations always go first.

Signs it is due: hairline crazing across the render, chalky residue on your hand when you rub the wall, colour visibly lighter on the weather side, or flaking around sills and downpipes. Once water is getting behind the coating, repainting alone will not fix it — the underlying repair has to happen first, and we will tell you if that is what we are looking at.

What time of year should exterior painting be done?

Broadly April to October in the South East. Masonry paint needs dry surfaces and temperatures high enough to cure properly. We would rather move a start date by a week than apply a coating in conditions that will make it fail early.

Do you provide scaffolding?

Where the job needs it, yes — it is priced into the itemised quote so there is no separate bill later. For lower elevations we often use towers or ladders instead, which keeps the cost down.

How long does exterior paint last?

With proper preparation and a quality masonry coating, typically eight to ten years on render, though exposed elevations weather faster. Cutting preparation short is what turns that into three.

Will you repair cracks before painting?

Yes. Cutting out and filling cracks, and stabilising porous or blown areas, is part of the work rather than an extra. If we find something structural we will tell you rather than paint over it.

Do you paint pebbledash?

Yes. Pebbledash needs considerably more paint than smooth render to cover properly, and we account for that when quoting rather than discovering it on site.
