A Finish That Lasts Starts With Preparation

A fresh coat of paint is one of the most cost-effective ways to change how a home looks and feels. The difference between a repaint that still looks good in five years and one that doesn't is almost entirely down to what happens before the first coat.

Our interior painting service covers everything from a single room repaint to a full-house project. We work in properties across London, Surrey and West Sussex — period cottages, Victorian terraces, 1930s semis and large detached family homes — and each surface type needs a different approach.

Every job starts the same way: we fill, sand and prime before any colour goes on. Old filler that has shrunk gets cut out and redone. Flaking or unstable paint is removed rather than painted over. Bare plaster gets a mist coat so the topcoat bonds properly instead of peeling later. None of this is visible in the finished room, which is exactly why it is the first thing cut when a job is priced too cheaply.

Your floors and furniture are protected before we start, and we tidy at the end of every working day rather than only at the end of the job. You will also be told what is wet and what the aftercare is before we leave each evening.

How an Interior Painting Job Runs

Knowing what happens and when removes most of the stress of having decorators in the house.

Free home visit. We come and look at the actual rooms. Measuring properly and seeing the condition of the surfaces is the only way to quote accurately — which is why we don't give firm prices over the phone.
Itemised written quote. You get a breakdown of what is being done, room by room, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and adjust the scope if you want to.
Agreed start date. Typically one to two weeks after you accept, depending on the time of year.
Protection and preparation. Furniture moved and covered, floors protected, then all filling, sanding and priming completed before any topcoat.
Painting. Ceilings first, then walls, then woodwork — in that order, for the obvious reason.
Walk-round. We go through the finished work with you and sort anything you are not happy with before we consider the job done.

Surfaces and Rooms We Cover

Interior painting is not one job — a bathroom ceiling, a stairwell and a set of Victorian skirtings all behave differently.

Ceilings — including bathroom and kitchen ceilings, where moisture-resistant paint genuinely matters.
Walls — new plaster, previously papered walls, and older walls needing making good before painting.
Woodwork — skirtings, architraves, doors, window boards, stairs and spindles, brushed by hand for a proper finish.
Hallways and stairwells — the hardest-wearing part of most homes and the trickiest to access safely.

Do you supply the paint or should I?

Either works. Most customers let us supply it, which means we can get trade-quality products and the right primer for each surface. If you have chosen specific colours or a particular brand, we are equally happy to work with paint you have bought — just tell us at the quote stage so it is priced correctly.

Do you move furniture?

We move and protect furniture as part of every job. For very large or fragile items we will discuss the best approach on the initial visit so everything is agreed in advance.

How long does it take to paint a room?

A straightforward bedroom is usually one to two days including preparation. A hallway, stairs and landing takes longer than people expect because of the access involved. The written quote states the expected duration so there are no surprises.

Can I stay in the house while you work?

Yes — most of our customers do. We work room by room, protect everything, and tidy each evening so the house stays liveable. We will also tell you what is still wet before we leave.

How many coats will you apply?

At least two topcoats, plus primer or a mist coat where the surface needs it. Strong colour changes sometimes need three, and if that is the case we will say so in the quote rather than discovering it halfway through.
